Shipley Community First Priorities

The five priorities give local groups a better idea about the kinds of activity the panel is interested in seeing coming forward. The priorities are deliberately quite broad and are aimed to encourage a diverse range of activities to be funded in every neighbourhood.

Priority 1: Bringing people together
Activities which bring different people together who might not ordinarily meet. Examples could be intergenerational, cultural or local neighbourhoods activities. The aim of this priority is to create situations in which can people meet in order to recognise common causes and interests.

Priority 2: Activities for young people
The aim of this priority is to develop more sustainable, community led activities for young people, particularly where they play a central role.

Priority 3: Improving the physical environment
The aim of this activity is to galvanise community action around improving Shipley’s environment, both practically and in terms of forming or strengthening interest groups to address local environmental issues such as open ground, traffic and buildings.

Priority 4: Active Shipley
Support for ideas which are particularly effective in encouraging more people to be actively involved in community-led projects.

Priority 5: Sustaining community action
The aim of this priority is to encourage groups to think of increased local participation as a key factor in long term sustainability. In particular, ideas that could be used by other groups to make existing community-led activities less grant-dependent.
