Shipley Bread Group

Interested in setting up a  'Community Bread Group' in Shipley?
I have a proposal for a not-for-profit 'bread group', based the Real Bread Campaigns 'Community Supporter Baking' ideas.

My interest came from several things, I've always liked baking, I have had a bread stall at two of the 'Shipley Alternative' markets, have been on two day-courses at the Handmade Bakery in Slaithwaite and just finished a 4 week voluntary apprenticeship with them.

There is a possibility for a community grant for baking equipment. I have discussed this with the Kirkgate Centre and they are supportive in principle.
There is no firm plan at present, although I do have a few ideas, potentially we could be baking together weekly for fun or therapy or to supply local businesses or community groups in a (very) small way. There are lots of ways we could go with this.

I would like the bread itself to be made within the Real Bread Campaigns 'benchmarks' and I am quietly confident of my newly acquired baking skills to help do this!

I wonder if you or a friend or colleague would be interested?

We need 3-4 people to get together, initially 'just' names on a form
to get the process going, draw up a A4 constitution and the grant application
form needs doing - we apply for the grant in march and it needs
spending by september so that all feels OK as a timescale.

Hope this gets  you interested - email shipleybreadgroup@kirkgatecentre.org.uk or call 07941985732 if you would like to discuss the idea further.

Thanks

Steve.
