Support for community action
Has your neighbourhood got a problem to solve or a good idea?
We might be able to help.

Making things happen
The Kirkgate Centre is more than just a building. We are committed to supporting local communities to help solve problems and make good ideas happen.

We are currently reorganising how we help groups, but here is a selection of things we are planning:

Infoshops
Infoshops offer a temporary space for people to exchange ideas, updates, notices of events and activities, share ideas, raise locals issues, etc. We aim to support infoshops across the Shipley constituency. If you’d like an infoshop in your neighbourhood, please let us know. Current infoshops are listed here.

Community Post Box
If your community or campaign group needs an address, you can use a box number at the Kirkgate Centre. Click here for more details and to apply.

Noticeboards
Simple ideas are sometimes the best and old-fashioned noticeboards are an invaluable way for communities to communicate. We aim to support local communities establish their own noticeboards or make better use of existing ones.
We also hope to make use of virtual noticeboards so that information is shared online too.

One to one support
We will continue to support local groups with signposting, problem solving,
planning, etc and will be working closely with other people who can help.

Developing skills
We are developing a number of fun and friendly workshops to help develop some important skills and learn from others doing similar things.

Community events and markets
We will be using a community marketplace format to help local activists and
groups promote their ideas to the local community as well as to fundraise,
network and share ideas.

Community Directory
Usually, the best advice comes from direct experience. We aim to establish a directory of local people who have learnt how to do things and are happy to share their experience.

Measuring change
This may sound daft or difficult, but measuring what you achieve is the secret to future success. We will help you do that in simple ways that don’t bog you down in paperwork, but help you and others achieve more.
